I bought this from EBay in September 2007. This currently represents the last addition to my collection of aircraft of the VVS in the Great Patriotic War. The old ICM Kit had been knocking around for years. Trumpeter came out with the 1/32nd scale kit but never announced a 1/48th scale version. It was only a rumour until several appeared on EBay in 2007. I just had to have a look. I have some many Yaks and Lavochkin how could one more MiG hurt? The MiG-3 is undoubtedly one of the prettiest aircraft produced at the time. Just gorgeous. If it performed like it looked it would have been a legend. Unfortunately it was horrible to fly and was discarded in favour of better designs by Lavochkin and Yakovlev. Some of the many accessories you can get to go with the ICM kit include:

  • Moskit Exhaust Pipes

  • Aeromaster Decals AMD48313 and AMD 48314 MiG-3 "Early Warriors" Parts 1 and 2

  • Eduard Photoetched parts include Instrument Panel and seatbelts

  • Extratech seatbelts for the aircraft of the VVS in the GPW

  • Fusion Resin Propeller and Spinner correction set

  • Cutting Edge Resin Instrument Panel

  • Cutting Edge Superdetail Set in Resin - includes the Instrument Panel mentioned above

  • Photoetch set by 'Ace' or 'Interavia'?

  • Ne Omega Resin Control Surfaces

  • Parts Accessories photoetch set

  • Quickboost MiG-3 exhaust QB48154

  • Eduard MiG-3 Photoetch set pre-painted ED49388

  • Eduard MiG-3 Masks EDEX229

  •    ...(all three of the above in a BIG ED 4891)

  • Avalon Decals set AVN4804 MiG-3 early for Trumpeter kit

  • SBS 1:48 MiG-3 Propeller set (designed to be used with Trumpeter kits)

Colour painting and decal placement guide. Colours stated are for "Aqueous Hobby Color" and "Mr Color". Front cover of the instructions. They reveal nothing about aircraft or history. There are 26 parts here - apparently all are used although the sprues look like it will be possible for Trumpeter to release later marques in future. Instruction steps one through five.

Excessive detail on the control surfaces. Poor detail inside of the main gear doors. Seat and rear cockpit instrumentation shelf. Poor instrument panels and other cockpit items.

Aftermarket Extras

Cutting Edge Super Detailed Cockpit set Eduard Photoetch set Fusion Propeller and Spinner correct set MiG-3 Moskit Metal Exhaust
This is the Cutting Edge Super Detailed Cockpit set. It is packed with parts and judging by their previous work, it is excellent. This is the Eduard Photoetch set. The Fusion Propeller and Spinner correct set. I had quite a problem getting this off of the EBay seller who was based in Canada. Poor comms, poor instructions. One of two MiG-3 Moskit Metal Exhaust sets.
Squadron vac formed canopies True Detail Resin Weighted wheels Cooper Details CD 4835 WWII Russian Fighter Main wheels
The Squadron vac formed canopies. You get two for the money. The True Detail Resin Weighted wheels reserved for the MiG-3 Project although the same set appears universal across Lavochkin and Yakovlev Fighters. Cooper Details CD 4835 WWII Russian Fighter Main wheels for ICM, Classic Airframes, Hobbycraft, MiG-3, Yak-7, Yak-9, LaGG-3, La-5 & La-7.
