Southern Front 1/48th scale

LaGG-3

The new Injection Moulded LaGG-3 from Southern Front (a Ukrainian company) which was released in 2006. I purchased this direct from the Ukraine via EBay. It depicts an early '4th batch' and it has the early rudder with horn balances rather than the later aerodynamic counterbalance. Aftermarket accessories include:

Kit Photos

The underside of the kit box shows the five machines depicted in the decals.	The decals are nice but the Instructions are photocopied and in Russian.	There is another crude photocopy that is very useful in depicting some of the machines on the decal sheet.	The first of four sprues has the fuselage, cockpit bulkheads and nose section.

The flip-side of the same sprue showing some crude internal details.	The wings are nicely moulded. The panel lines are recessed. The sprue is in the style of older Airfix Kits.	Reverse of the same sprue. Note the ailerons are separate.	The remaining two sprues for all the other items.

Aftermarket Extras

The Eduard colour photoetch for Gavia La-7 will not be used on this kit but it has potential.	Moskit metal Blast Tubes for soviet 12.7mm UB Machine Guns used on LaGG-3 series 66.	Six Moskit metal exhaust pipe for LaGG-3 series 66.	True Detail set 48054 for LaGG-3 includes two main wheels with radial tread.

Decals

No - not double vision. I accidentally bought two copies of this sheet off EBay at different times. D'oh!	It is the Aeromaster Decal set 48-152C. A nice set it features 3 Series 35 LaGG-3 and one LaGG-3 'standard'. The title of the set is "Fighting Lavochkins Pt III".	There are some interesting notes here.	The Green Serie decals by Propagteam. The same machines are featured on both of the featured decal sheets.

The Aeromaster set is superior.
