Heinkel He-111 spare

This is the 'spare' He-111 that came as a surprise addition to the EBay item I procured. The sellers obviously did not know what they were selling and I suspect a sad story may by behind why it was being sold. Several parts are missing from the spare Revell Kit as well as from one Verlinden set and from the Koster set. I E:Mailed the sellers and asked if they had these missing parts. At first they were helpful but did admit they had cleared their nephew's modelling bench and threw everything into the box. Then I never heard from them again and the E:Mails started to bounce. A bizarre story that did leave me with a challenge as to how to not 'waste' the spare He-111. Many of the aftermarket items listed here came with the EBay kit although I list several others:

True Details radial tread resin weighted wheels
Eduard 48-138 He-111 H3 detail set has cockpit detailing with rudder pedals. Its Control Panel is photoetched with instrument backing so is better than the True Details Resin Part although the resin part has the correct back. The photoetch parts duplicate most areas covered in resin by True Details but there is also gun, turret and gunner seat details. The two sets should be combined any anything not required kept for the spare.

Kit Photos

A box full of bits greets the eyes. It is hard to believe that Revell constructed the box to be 100% too big - big enough to swallow two complete kits.	Two instruction sheets.	The spare has no sprues bagged and several items missing. Here are the unbagged clear parts.	Here are various items that were removed from the sprues by the previous owner. These are the internal bulkheads and one tail section.

Lower wing sprue showing internals.	The Revell kit has the bomb-sight missing (part 48) but this is easily replaced from the resin superdetail sets in the aftermarket section.	The Revell kit is missing the bomb bay cover but this is not a problem as there is an Eduard open Bomb Bay set.	The Revell kit has several cockpit items missing: 26, 45, 46, 47, 56, 57 & 58. However, all can be replaced by the True Details set.

The Revell kit has the following items missing: 106 (propellers), 20 (spinners), 70, 19 & 38 (pitot). Again - these can be replaced. Spare props come from the Arba set.	Finally; I slightly more thorny problem. The Revell kit is missing parts 23, 24, 25, 27 & 28 - the entire undercarriage! Fortunately the company "Scale Aircraft Conversions" came to the rescue with white metal alternatives!

Aftermarket Extras

Arba Heinkel He-111 H6 correction set includes white metal paddle-blade props & new gondola.	The Eduard Internal Detail Photoetch set 48 138 for Heinkel He-111 H3. The previous owner appears to have spray painted the frets.	The Instruction Sheet for the Eduard set.	Reverse of same said Instruction sheet.

The Eduard He-111 Bomb Bay set in photoetch set nbr 48 140 - part assembled and painted by previous owner.	The Eduard set 48-139 He-111 H3 exterior. Note the 'old' style of the packaging for all these Eduard Items that came with the item from EBay.	Compare the old-style packaging to Eduard's new look. These are the He-111 Express Masks XF100. (Two sets.) These did not come from EBay - they are a more recent addition.	This is a copy of the Falcon ClearVax instructions with the He-111 Items carefully removed and stored with the main kit.

The reverse of the copied instructions for the Falcon ClearVax shows the set includes the He-111 nose, dorsal turret and three types of underside gondola.	KMC set 48-5009 Heinkel He-111 Control Surfaces in resin.	The Koster Aero Enterprises Detail set includes vacformed engine nacelles for the He-111P (shown here assembled by previous owner). Despite various missing items the set is a good source of white metal guns and vacformed clear parts.	The reverse of the KAE set's Instructions giving an impression as to the vast array of "P" and "H" designs that can be configured. The previous owner had attempted to insert the Verlinden Engines inside the vacformed 'P' Engine Nacelles.

True Details resin weighted wheels set 48060 includes two mains wheels and the tail wheel. (Radial tread.)	The previous owner had purchased not one but two Verlinden Superdetail sets. I am not a big fan of Verlinden sets as they often have very poor scale. However, this is usable.	The set includes some cockpit detail but mainly concerns an exposed engine. The engines are handed but with a bit of work it may be possible to set up both port and starboard exposed engine for the 'H' if not the 'P'.	Opened instructions for the Verlinden set.

Scale Aircraft Conversions white metal undercarriage purchased in March 2010. A dissappointing copy of the kit undercarriage with no obvious improvement other than strength. However as ours is missing beggars can't be choosers!
