Italeri 1/48th scale

Hercules AC-130OU

The Italeri 1/48th scale AC-130U Spectre Gunship Hercules. This was bought on impulse from EBay in 2005 because I like big 1/48th scale kits and always wanted to build the Italeri Hercules. The kit has not changed much over the many years since its inception. I remember seeing it in the High Street Model Shops as a boy nearly 20 years ago. It shows its age in having raised panel lines. Italeri updated it over the years with different sprues to make different marques of the Herky-bird. Sadly they added no internal detail for this Gunship leaving the modeller to seal up the rear-ramp. However, I have always planned to superdetail the interior. Sadly this would be quite a job hence this one has sat on the back-burner for a while whilst I summon the courage to do all that rescribing and extra detailing. I am hoping that an aftermarket supplier might come up with a resin set for this but, so far, I wait in vain. What you can get are:

Kit Photos

A glimpse inside the box upon first opening. Note the Paragon wheels in a bag to the right of the box.	The Instruction sheet.	The parts on the sprue are BIG! Here we see various internal sections plus the tail.	The fuselage was split into two otherwise it would have never fit the Box. This was probably the largest injection moulder Italeri had at the time. Revell-Monogram always did it bigger.

The somewhat limited and dull Decal sheet. No alternative has ever been found.	Various other components still sealed in their original bags. Note here the Propellers.	Another bag of sprues - this one apparently largely consisting of internals for the kit.	Another bagged set of sprues for the wings.

Aftermarket Extras

The FlightPath photoetch detail set is quite expensive and difficult to find. I actually got mine off EBay.	Those Paragon Resin Wheels.	Scale Aircraft Conversions white metal undercarriage purchased in March 2010. A dissappointing copy of the kit undercarriage with no obvious improvement other than strength.
