Heritage Aviation Models 1/24th scale Avro Lancaster

Purchased in the New Year of 2010 this was a model I bought more out of curiosity than anything else. I purchased it mail order over the internet. The box is enormous. The contents are disappointing as you can imagine. Shiny white vacuum-formed sheet without any panels lines. Poorly defined shapes. Poor quality resin and laughably-bad white metal. I was disappointed. This is the epitome of short-run vacuum-moulded kits of yesteryear. Certainly one for the collectors.

This is not an impossible kit to make. To do so I reckon you need to do the following: build it at the same time as building the Tamiya 1/48th scale kit. Use the Tamiya kit is a model taking all its internal components and scratchbuilding them by simply doubling the size of the Tamiya example. Get yourself some good scale drawings and pay to have them blown up to the scale of the kit. Be prepared to build a meaty wing spar! For storage you may well need to make the wings detachable. Buy the Airfix 1/24th scale Mosquito and any aftermarket accessories. It is likely you will be able to use items for that project on the HAM Lancaster. For example HAM supply NO engine exhausts. You may be able to copy these from the Airfix versions? Worth a try! Good luck.

Kit Photos

I admit I just put the box straight in the attic. It wasn't a pretty sight. Sadly it didn't come with the book as advertised. If I am bored one day I will drag it out of the attic and photograph it for you!

Aftermarket Extras

You have to be kidding. However, keep an eye out for items off, or destined for, the Airfix 1/24th scale Mosquito. Something might prove useful!

Decals

Not a chance although the kit comes with decals. You may be able to plunder items from various 1/24th scale kits but it may well be easier to paint on the markings in this scale.
