This is one of three that I collected from EBay during 2006. Gavia produced three boxed versions; a low tech, a hi tech and the three gun hi tech version. This is the lo tech release. Nice box art yeah? Of course Gavia is part of the same 'family' as Eduard so we are on solid ground here. Some of the accessories you can collect for this kit are:

  • Squadron Vac formed canopy

  • Aeromaster Decals AMD48534 five aircraft including "White 23" of Major V. A. Orekhov

  • Eduard 'special' decals

  • Aeroclub propeller blades in white metal

  • Extratech seatbelts for the VVS in the GPW

  • True Details weighted resin wheels

  • Eduard Colour Photoetched details include flaps, engine slats, cockpit, undercarriage and seatbelts

  • Eduard Colour Photoetch "Zoom" similar to the above but with only the Instrument panel, cockpit and seatbelts

  • E-Z Mask Canopy Mask EZ093

  • Parts Accessories PTS48101 photoetch

  • Parts Accessories flaps PTS48102 photoetch

  • Loon Models LO48204 'No Cut' conversions La-7 3-gun, nose, seat, rudder

  • Tally Ho Resin La-7 wheels THR48024

  • Cooper Details CD 4836 WWII Russian Fighter Seats with belts

  • Cooper Details CD 4835 WWII Russian Fighter Main wheels

Gavia 1/48th scale Lavochkin La-7

  • Goffy Model La-7 cockpit, gun bay & vac canopy GOF4807

  • CMK Czech Master Kit Resin Detail set (cockpit) 4195

  • Karaya E4805 Shvetsov Ash-82FN/M-82FN Radial Engine in Resin for Lavochkin La-5FN, La-7, La-9, La-11 (for Zvezda La-5FN)

Unlike on the photo's of the hi tech this model came from it's previous owner with the sprues 'de-bagged'. Hence we get a good opportunity to see the contents. The first two shots are of the SAME sprue but showing it front and back. These next two shots show the wing sprue front and back. It is a simple moulding. Panel lines are fine and recessed.

The lo tech kit only lacks the photoetch set that the other two kits have. The kit Instructions, Painting Guide and Decal sheet - all excellent.

Aftermarket Extras

Scale Aircraft Modelling February 2004 Aeroclub propeller blades Colour photoetch set from Eduard is the 'Zoom' set with extras 'Zoom' set of colour photoetch from Eduard
This is a useful piece of reference from Scale Aircraft Modelling published in the magazine in February 2004. Those Aeroclub propeller blades. It remains to be seen if these are in any way superior to the kit offering... We will use this set on this lo tech kit. This is the large colour photoetch set from Eduard which is the 'Zoom' set but with lots of extras. This one set is saved for THIS 'lo tech' version of the Gavia Kit. This is the 'Zoom' set of colour photoetch from Eduard. As you would expect it is beautiful however I will reserve this one set for use on the LTD LaGG-3 kit.

Decals

The Aeromaster decal set 48-534 "Falcons of the Red Star" Part 3. This early set from Aeromaster predates their involvement with Erik Pilawskii hence the use of FS colour references. Five La-7's are on offer here. This set seems to pre-date the Gavia kit judging by its advice to use the Academy/Hobbycraft kit. The SuperScale Decal set 48-428 featuring La-7's and La-5FN's of Popkov and Kozhedub. Definitely worth checking the references first.

Three aircraft depicted on the set are those of Ivan Kozhedub, one La-5FN is on an unknown pilot with the final 'FN being Popkov.
