Accurate Miniatures 1/48th scale Il-2m3

One of many EBay purchases this Accurate Miniatures 1/48th scale Shturmovik was pretty much the only game in town until the Italeri release. I have all three of the AM versions released. This is the single seater version. This would not have had swept wings and is likely to have had the wooden wings. Some of the accessories available for this kit include:

Kendall 'swept' wooden wings - depends upon whether the model represents a metal or wooden wing. Is wooden then this backdates the kit to earlier in the war
Kendall 'straight' wooden wings - the singles seater should have straight wooden wings already. This might be a conversion for the 2 seater to back date it to an earlier modified version. Or it makes the singles seater more accurate.

Kit Photos

The box is in good condition. This is the reverse side. The picture to the top right of this page is the box-top artwork.	These sprues show parts including tail and cockpit detail.	All the parts are still sealed - I don't open them for the photo's. These sprues contain the fuselage and 'swept' wings.	Accurate Miniatures use this cardboard insert to separate out the Decals and Kit Instructions.

Aftermarket Extras

Here are the three Moskit Il-2 Exhaust Pipes - one for each of the three Accurate Miniatures versions. All three were obtained from Hannants.	There is one set of the KMC Il-2 Control surfaces procured via EBay.	These are KMC's Il-2 straight wooden wings - solid cast in very heavy resin. It isn't clear yet how these are better than the kit wings.	CMK's set 4004 Interior set for the two seater. The single seater has similar but it is packaged with the control surfaces and armament sets.

The Interior set contains the vacformed canopy that is different from the one in the Il-2 single seater set from CMK. However the cockpit photoetch looks the same. The interior detail set resin components. Most parts are identical in appearance to the Il-2m3 set.	CMK's armament set 4015 for the Accurate Miniatures kit. It features wing bomb bays and bombs. Photoetch set contains fuse vanes, bomb fins and sway braces. However most of the fins are in thin resin which are largely broken on my example.	The resin parts to this kit. The choice of using thin resin for the bomb fins is questionable as you can see (bottom right). Several are broken. Photoetch would surely have been better?	The CMK control surfaces for the Il-2m3 still sealed in their package. These are probably the same as those for the Single Seater.	Two sets of the Eduard Canopy Masks (Kabuki Tape). Purchased quite late in the project from Hannants in March 2010.

Decals

The Aeromaster set 48-349 "Shturmoviks Part 3". Very difficult to find and long out of print. I am still looking for parts 1 and 2....	This is a nice set for the two seater with good details on the camouflage. FS numbers for colours are spurious - but a nice try. Two depicted markings are Russian with on Czech trainer and one Yugoslavian machine.	For a change - a decal manufacturer that actually gives you both port and starboard views of the camo scheme! Clearly the Czech Trainer will involve some minor conversion to the kit.	I don't recall where I got this set from but the Yugoslav markings appear to be deliberately faded thru to white. Otherwise the rest of the set is pristine. Maybe a printing error?
