1/72nd scale Tornado Gr.1

Aeroclub white metal ejection seats

1.     Possibly an Esci Kit - the 1/72nd scale Tornado Gr.1. The model represented the then peak of my modelling abilities. It boasted the best possible aftermarket details and decals then available. Aeroclub provided white metal ejection seats. The weapons are white metal (I forget their origin). The ladder is photoetch by PPAeroparts. The decals are by Modeldecal. The finish is airbrushed using Xtracolour enamels and I was very happy with the result. It was a good kit but time moves on... Although happy with the result I felt it could have been better if better aftermarket resin had been available. When the Hasegawa 1/72nd scale Tornado turned up I bought that.

2.     I then also purchased the Verlinden Superdetail set for the Hasegawa Tornado. 3.     Years later I had lost interest in building 1/72nd and consolidated my collection down to 1/48th scale kits. Sadly the Hasegawa/Verlinden went to EBay... 4.     Here we see some assembly steps. The white plastic is plasticard being used to box in intakes and improve the cockpit. 5.     Not a crashed Tornado! Note the white metal chaff dispenser won't stay straight on its pivoting pylon. It is too heavy.
