Matchbox 1/72nd scale Huey Cobra

Matchbox 1/72nd scale Huey Cobra

1.     Matchbox 1/72nd scale Huey Cobra. I always have fond memories of Matchbox kits as most of my early kit building career saw me working my way through their catalogue. They were cheap and came in silly coloured plastic. They had engraved panel lines but those lines were very thick.

2.     This model also represents the last of a long line of kits completed without an airbrush. The inspiration for the model came from a flight of the real thing that flew over our house one day. I had a good view as the gunners manipulated the Gatling Mini-Guns in the nose. 3.     The Matchbox kit represents an early Cobra from the Vietnam War so it didn't have a Gatling Gun. Instead it had a Grenade Launcher. So I took the barrel from a 1/72nd scale Scimitar Tank and grafted it on. It was too heavy to stay level and the mechanism would allow it to flop onto the ground. 4.     The photo of the spinning blades works quite well. I believe I set them spinning with my finger just before pressing the shutter release.
